NABGC Supporter Spotlight

I admire what James has done with the choir, and I think that the NABGC provides a badly needed creative space for young people in a delicate formative period in life
— McClean

David McClean does not come from the world of music. In addition to running a business consultancy, he teaches philosophy, business and professional ethics, and a course titled Philosophy and the Black Experience, all at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. But he’s a fan of the New Amsterdam Boys and Girls Choir and its director, James Backmon.

“I admire what James has done with the choir, and I think that the NABGC provides a badly needed creative space for young people in a delicate formative period in life,” he says.

His contribution to that development includes inviting the choir to jump into the swimming pool in his yard and enjoy the green spaces in Dix Hills where he lives with his wife, Renee. He also invites his friends to join him in supporting the choir, as he did last summer at a fundraiser at his home.

“I hope that the choir will soon be able to triple its offerings with a commensurate increase in funding. The McClean family intends to help toward those ends, or whatever the level of growth the leadership of NABGC deems best.
