Musicianship:

Choral Singing

NABGC members are taught to appreciate their voices as musical instruments. They are taken through a comprehensive routine including regular rehearsals and performances.

Each rehearsal includes a thorough warmup. During rehearsals the basic aspects of singing are covered: good posture, correct breathing, tone production, clear diction, etc.

Songs are selected based on the choir’s ability as well as what is appropriate for the various occasions.  The annual spring concert is designed to showcase what was learned throughout the season.

Music Theory

Our NABGC director uses the study of the piano and electronic keyboard as a fun way for young women and men to learn the basic aspects of music theory: It deepens the understanding of time signature, key signature, scales, note and rest values, rhythm, phrasing and chord progressions. In addition, the learning of short piano selections helps to give a sense of accomplishment.
