NABGC at Church of the Living Hope

In the fall of 1985, our Founder & Artistic Director James Backmon was hired as the minister of music at the Church of the Living Hope in East Harlem, and the following spring, the congregation gave permission for the newly founded New Amsterdam Boys Choir to be housed at the church.

All these years later, after adding young women to our roster and looking for space once more, the congregation has invited us back to hold various classes in the fall. We’ve been looking for new space since January 2020, so this invitation is most appreciated, and we’re grateful to the Rev. Ruben Nunoz and the congregation.

Living Hope was a significant part of the choir’s beginning, and we will perform at church services there in spring of 2022 and participate in activities there, even as we continue to build our endowment and seek permanent housing.
